I just got myself a new camera along with a f/1.4 prime lens. I have a flash too, but if I’m also having fun just opening up the lens and not using the flash for indoor portraits. You have to be a bit careful though; I’ve taken more then a few shots at 1.4 where the person’s nose is in focus, their cheeks are getting a bit soft, and their ears are totally out.
The white balance can be a bit tricky too when your shots are lit by one lamp in the corner with a yellow shade and a fluorescent bulb down the hallway. That’s where having a white dog comes in handy, though. Just calibrate to him and your good to go!
